Learn these 4 skills before quarantine ends

We don’t know when quarantine will end. Although the government is slowly and I hope strategically opening up the country some of us will still be terrified about being around others. After all you’ve been away from people for so long, and the little time you see each other in the grocery store, you avoid eye contact as if looking at someone will somehow make you contract covid19. Some of you are also working from home. So by now, you may have been conditioned to keep your distance. I hope we never reach a state where this distancing become the norm though. We are too social for that.  Anyways, where was I, yes, we are now allowed outside LOL. A number of you might be still reluctant to head out and are waiting for the first wave of opening to be successful. And rightfully so, especially when you hear that some people are asymptomatic – have covid19 but show little to no signs. Armed with this knowledge, maybe you will opt to stay home a little while longer. And if the virus flares up, I’m really hoping it doesn’t (because no one wants this to come to an end more that I do), then we all will be staying home a little longer. If you can recall, most of those who died from the Spanish flu died during the second wave. So while you stay home, try not to be idle as this time will pass. Even if all you have is a plan when this is all over, that’s good enough. Remember 2020 was the year to make plans for that vision you had. Our vision has been obscured, we can barely see what’s ahead but if you take your time and plan effectively, you can make it through. Here are some things that can add value to your skill-sets while you shelter from the rain.

1. Ramp Up Your Cooking Skills

We are cooking a lot more. Not because some of us want to but we have to as many of us aren’t taking the chance to buy prepared foods in these corona times. So while you are ‘cheffing’ it up in the kitchen, why not make a few things from scratch. Things like pesto sauce, thousand island dressing, ranch dressing, humus, Jamaican patties, chili, funnel cakes, all kinds of cakes for that matter, ice-cream, different types of beverages or even a cultural dish that is different from your own. Probably you are vegan and want to try making cheese from cashew or meatless burgers. By the way if you know of a really good vegan cheese, comment and let me know. There are so many things you can make from scratch and you will realize that they are much healthier, tastier and have ingredients you can pronounce. The fact is, a large proportion of the foods we consume are packed with additives, chemicals and even carcinogens. And the other sad fact is we have become so addicted to these foods that our own cells crave them.

Ever walked pass an ice-cream shop and you had to stop? Yes my friend that was those fat cells and sugar cells that you have created over the years sending messages to your brain and somehow even if you passed the store you went back and then tell yourself that this is the last time, but it happens again and again and again. Through our constant bad eating habits our cells have been distorted in so much that we are more likely to choose bad foods over good ones. Ever walked pass a health store? I bet you just wonder what the hell they sell inside. We seem to have a liking for bad things. Bad boys/girls are more attractive, bad friends are more fun, when describing something that’s good, we say it’s bad. We are a bad culture LOL. Nevertheless, since you will be spending a lot of time in the kitchen, lets hope that instead of breaking the plates you break some bad habits and use this time to prepare some foods that will do your body good.

2. Solve Your Own Beauty Problems

The hair salons, the nail place, the eyebrow shop and other beauty parlours are all closed. Well there are some operating illegally. Like who is getting their nails or hair done in these these times and where are you going?  Anyhow, we are all left to deal with your own beauty problems. This has left so many instagram pages without an updated photo, instead people are regurgitating old photos to ensure that they are not forgotten. This indicates the importance of self-reliance. That way, when times like this come around, you are well equipped. You may not be able to tackle everything but in these trying times your appearance still matters. Even more so for couples since their partners are home and they might want to spice things up, instead of looking like aunt Betty or uncle Tom all day. Thankfully we come equipped with a brain that is always ready to learn. So turn on youtube, find your favorite Youtuber and learn to do something new; be it make-up, lashes or cut your hair.

You see, there are some goods things about corona, she is not all bad, she is just more bad than good. One observation that I have noticed is that people are also looking like themselves as they are not constantly applying make-up, nails, hair extensions, lashes and the likes. Men you should learn how to cut your hair too. Because truth be told, you guys are not looking like yourselves. As you will be grooming a lot, always use products that are 100% pure. As this quarantine has awarded you with time, use it to learn and possibly obtain new skills. With your new credentials, you may be able to start a business, and the sky is the limit from there. So use this time wisely. The last time such a catastrophic event took place was 1918. By the looks of it, if you are a newborn, you may never experience such an event in your lifetime. But then again, they predicted that corona will re-surface in the next 10 years. Yeah, not sure how they know this either.

3. "Sew" Fun

If you have a sewing machine, another activity you can start doing is sewing. That’s a great skill to have. And I know we ain’t got nowhere to go but this will not last forever. No! The grocery store doesn’t count. You probably looking like a mess in there, hence the reason you can’t look no one in the eye. Anyways summer is quickly approaching and let’s face it, a lot of people will not have the means to go on shopping sprees when this is all over. So if you have a sewing machine start learning to make your own clothes. You can even make masks if you have materials to earn some cash on the side.

Making your own clothes will not only save you some money, it will also guarantee that no one will be wearing what you are wearing. Again you can look on youtube as there are many sewing videos from beginner to advance. With a lot of retail stores going online, you can also set up an online shop in Etsy to sell your items or add an e-commerce to your blog site if you have one. The richest man in the world started selling items out of his garage and look, he is about to become the world’s first trillionaire. Don’t underestimate your skills and where they can take you. So, sew away, you will be “sew” happy you did.

4. Just Dance

Learn some new dances. Dancing is fun and it’s a great way to burn off all that quarantine food you are consuming. If you are interested in salsa, merengue, hip-hop, there are a plethora of youtube videos at your disposal. Dancing have a lot of benefits too. It’s increases your cognitive ability, it challenges your brain, it improves your mood and it boost your confidence. All of this from dancing, I definitely will be learning a few moves. Similarly, studies have shown that people who dance are seen as more attractive.

And who doesn’t want to be more attractive. Men would also like the fact that women who dance tend to have a sexier walk. You may not become the world’s best dancer but somehow, you will end up feeling better than before. Not only that, you will want to show off your new moves to your friends and family. And who knows, you may even develop a little dance group and start your own youtube channel, just dancing. You would be astonished to know how much people will actually tune in and the sky is the limit for this one too.

Time Waits For No Man

As is evident, there are many things that can be done to allow the seamless passing of time while you are locked up. These are simply suggestions as you may have other things that you are passionate about. Do whatever you need to to do to uplift your spirit and ensure that your mental health is in tact as we navigate through this deadly turbulence. The principal point is not to waste your time as time waits for no man. Time’s job is to keep going despite what you do. Not saying you should spend every moment being productive but you should at least value the extra time you have now. Stay active, learn something new or improve upon something that you have been doing. Learning is a lifetime activity, so don’t stop, seize the opportunity because it doesn’t often knock twice. Until next time pepes, keep calm, stay strong and blog on.
