"Go easy on yourself, whatever you do today let it be enough" Unknown
“Don’t worry, about a thing, cause every little thing gonna be alright” So I’m starting with some lyrics from a Bob Marley song. Listen to song here. Bob Marley is known as the founding father of Reggae music. His music encompasses love and just taking life easy. Even though, that’s like an oxymoron in today’s world. You must be wondering how can you take life easy when life is so hard, how can you love when there is so much hate. But you can only do what you can do, do what you are able to, do what you have control of. Life is hard and there is evidence of it everywhere. Remember the time when you were walking down the street, gazing away not realizing that you have crossed a majorly busy street without an accident, or when you were driving and before you know it, you have reached your destination but have no clue when you passed certain monuments, that big pothole in the road you always avoided or all the red lights that you did not run but stopped safely to allow other vehicles their turn. And this was all because of whatever circumstances you’re going through (being a single parent, credit cards debt, overdue mortgage payment etc..), your mind placed your physical body in that circumstance and not where you’re presently situated. And of course, life is to be blamed for this, after all, it’s hard right?
It gets even more difficult and harder to digest when you see others living so well, but you are struggling. Keep in mind that whatever they are doing has nothing to with you. The truth is, you don’t know what is it they are doing, so keep your eyes on your own path. Social media can be a false ruthless reminder that your life sucks. And the truth is your life may not suck, it may be far from it but still, the exaggerated reality of social media got you feeling like you’re not enough. You can easily become depressed and feel worthless and depending on how intense this feeling become and the type of person you are, you may never get back up again. You see, sometimes we have to take a social media fast rather than a food fast. The thing is, if you are overweight, you can lose some weight, if you are underweight, you can gain more weight, but we often don’t gain our minds back once we’ve lost it. Protect your mental health. In addition, whatever you are going through, someone is actually going though worse. And we are well aware of that, sometimes we don’t have to look too far, just turn the television on or look in your own backyard (figuratively speaking) and you will see all the suffering that’s happening in the world. Now this is not a comparison or to feel happy because someone is encountering harder times, it is only a reminder to be grateful and not be so hard on yourself. Another reminder, you should never live a life of comparison, not on social media or with your family and friends.
So whatever you see to today on Instagram (the ultimate deceiver), facebook, twitter and the list goes on, remind yourself to go easy, don’t worry because in due time, whatever you’re working on, if you remain committed and consistent, every little thing will be alright. At the end of the day, it doesn’t matter how slow you go, so long as you don’t stop, there will be light at the end of the tunnel. Try not to be perturb, as that is the key player that will intensify and worsen whatever it is you are experiencing. Similarly, if you don’t remind yourself on a daily basis that you are enough and whatever you do is enough, you may never be enough. And my friend that is a big problem that has the potential to erase all the great things you have done. Stay focus on those goals, Rome was not built in a day or a week and same can be said for whatever it is you are doing. Embrace whatever struggle you are going through, and allow it to make you stronger as this too shall pass. In the words of Oprah Winfrey ‘be thankful for what you have, you’ll end up having more. If you concentrate on what you don’t have, you will never ever have enough.” So “go easy on yourself, whatever you do today let it be enough.” My friends, until next time, keep calm and blog on.
